Partners for Life

On the morning of June 3, 2013, RBC stood alongside Canadian Blood Services to usher in National Blood Donor Week with the ceremonious ringing of the bell to open the TSX. The bell also signalled the launch of RBC’s 2nd annual June blood drive with clinics and What’s Your Type? events held at various locations throughout Toronto.

Amanda Moore, Director of Privacy & Information Risk, James Weber of RBC Wealth Management Services, Debbie Young-Hermanns of RBC Capital Markets, and Cathy Arbuckle of RBC Global Asset Management even organized bringing a Bloodmobile to the Royal Bank Plaza and RBC Centre in Toronto this past June so employees could easily take an hour to donate blood. “We can’t emphasize enough the importance of donating blood,” says Amanda.

RBC continues to build on its commitment from 2012, when Toronto-area employees generously donated 746 units throughout the year. The organization worked hard to extend awareness of the Partners for Life (PFL) program beyond Toronto in 2013, with gratifying results. According to the latest available figures, 1,034 RBC employees across the country donated and 216 new donors joined the blood system.

To ensure that awareness of the PFL program is extended beyond Toronto and into other RBC regions, Shauneen Bruder, Executive VP CB Operations took on the role of sponsor.

CB Operations participated in blood donation events by supporting Canadian Blood Services mobile clinics in Toronto and Winnipeg to huge success.

“Every day in Canada, more than 2,000 units of blood are needed in hospitals for lifesaving treatments. At RBC, we have a long-standing partnership with Canadian Blood Services to help meet this need,” says Shauneen.
