Thank You

From our permanent clinics, mobile clinics, and Bloodmobiles, we at Canadian Blood Services also express our deepest gratitude to our committed donors and volunteers who save lives every day through their generosity.

new lease on life
I have been donating blood, plasma, and platelets for a long time now. I always knew in my own mind and from all the information available just how important blood donations are but never thought it would impact me until recently when my wife needed a blood transfusion. She had a diagnostic medical procedure and several days later she awoke in great pain. Turns out she had internal bleeding and her blood count was very low. They quickly repaired the leaking vessel thru [sic] an artery and started blood transfusions. She got three units of blood. Her hemoglobin came back up to around 93 and she was watched for a day and released. She came home as weak as a kitten and recovered slowly. It has been three weeks and today she feels strong enough to do a short stint at work. She is a teacher. I now have a deeper understanding of why donating blood is so important, IT MAY HAVE SAVED MY WIFE.

Thank you for your organization

relieved
Good Afternoon,
I just wanted to write you and say “Thank You”!
I donated blood at your clinic last week in Tisdale, Saskatchewan. During the screening process, the nurse took my blood pressure (which is usually in the low range). This day it was alarmingly high (124/99). This was quite a shock to me. I had no idea that my blood pressure had increased to this level.
I have been monitoring it for a week now, and it has been consistently high.
I saw my GP today and we have come up with a plan to control this condition.
Had I not donated blood last week, I would have been walking around blissfully unaware of the ticking time bomb inside my body. So not only did my blood donation potentially save the life of three others, it has possibly saved MY life.

Thanks again!

regular donor
I donated blood this afternoon at the permanent clinic in Barrie, Ontario. I am a regular donor and always find the staff and volunteers helpful and friendly.
Today Andrea set me up, put the needle in, took my blood, etc. She was personable, friendly and I felt absolutely no discomfort. In fact I didn’t even feel the needle go in or come out. I was absolutely amazed! I have donated 78 times and everything is always fine — but today stood out for me and I wanted to let someone know.

Thank you,
Carol B.

truly grateful
Dear Canadian Blood Services,
My mom had Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia for nine years. I just wanted to thank you for all you do. Because of you, I was given extra time with my mom. We had so many conversations and laughs and tears. I wouldn’t trade a single moment of the past seven months of her life and without blood donors, I wouldn’t have had that extra time with her. Unfortunately, it didn’t save her life, but it gave me her just a little bit longer and that is truly priceless. Thanks to you, I have absolutely no regrets with my mom. I treasure every moment we spent together and I know that some people don’t get that chance. We had seven months thanks to blood and platelet donations. People have no idea how important donating blood is. But without it, I would have lost my mom a lot sooner. Seven months may not seem worth it to you, but I wouldn’t have traded a single moment. I don’t think that until you have lost your mom, you realize how precious every last moment is. So, on behalf of my mom and I, thank you… for all you do.

Sincerely,
Rhonda Surmon (RoseMary Guy)

a mother’s thanks
Growing up you’re told how much good blood donation can do for someone, however nobody ever tells you how many people will need blood donations or how many they will need. I never thought I’d be one of those people. On January 19th, 2013, I went into labour. Everything happened so fast that I didn’t have time to catch my breath and on January 20th my breath was taken away yet again – my perfect little girl had finally arrived. She weighed 6lbs 14oz and her father and I couldn’t have been more in love! Then, suddenly everything took a turn for the worse.
I ended up losing 3.5 litres of blood. I was in the hospital for four days and received six blood transfusions. I don’t know any of the six people that took time out to donate, but you saved my life. Without those transfusions, I could’ve died. Instead I get to wake up to the most gorgeous little girl every single day and I’m so thankful that people took the time out to donate. If I could hug every single person that donated I would.
Thank you to everyone that continues to do what you do.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Without all of you, I wouldn’t be able to watch her grow up.

Thank you,
Kay-Leigh McDonald
